Dr. Abel S. Mathew is a licensed psychologist and fellowship-trained clinical neuropsychologist specializing in comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations across clinical, forensic, and sports medicine contexts. He has completed advanced postdoctoral training in both sports concussion and traumatic brain injury at the Children’s Health Andrews Institute and forensic neuropsychology at Price, Proctor & Associates in affiliation with UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Dr. Mathew conducts a wide range of evaluations for adults and adolescents, including those related to brain injury, neurodegenerative disease, civil and criminal forensic matters, and academic and occupational accommodations. His assessment work is informed by a strong foundation in research, having published extensively on concussion recovery, anxiety-related conditions, and cognitive functioning.

In addition to neuropsychological assessment, Dr. Mathew provides evidence-based psychotherapy for individuals experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, with a particular focus on body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs) such as trichotillomania and excoriation (skin picking) disorder.

Dr. Mathew is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at UT Southwestern, where he is involved in teaching and supervision in forensic and neuropsychological assessment.

 

Dr. Miriam Mathew, PsyD

Dr. Miriam Mathew is a licensed clinical psychologist with broad experience in delivering evidence-based psychotherapy to children, adolescents and adults across outpatient, college counseling, and residential treatment settings. She currently practices at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, where she provides individual therapy to undergraduate and graduate students, and conducts clinical supervision for doctoral-level trainees within the counseling department.

Dr. Thomas completed her doctoral training at William James College and pre-doctoral internship at the University of Maine, where she provided therapy, crisis intervention, group facilitation, and outreach for university students. Her clinical background also includes advanced training in college mental health, interpersonal process groups, and eating disorder treatment, with a foundation in CBT, DBT, and trauma-informed care.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Thomas has a strong interest in expanding access to therapy through telehealth. Her dissertation research explored the effectiveness and clinician experience of telehealth services in college counseling centers post-COVID, contributing valuable insights to the evolving landscape of digital mental health.
